The Challenge
International students face significant hurdles when accessing healthcare in the United States, including unfamiliarity with the healthcare system, language barriers, and cultural differences. These obstacles lead to confusion, anxiety, and often, delayed medical attention. Additionally, navigating health insurance options and understanding medical terminology are major pain points that hinder their ability to receive timely and appropriate care.
The Opportunity
How might we leverage AI to create a personalized healthcare aid that empowers international students to navigate the US healthcare system with confidence and ease?
Design Rationale
There exists an opportunity to develop an AI-powered, educational, and interactive healthcare aid that simplifies the complexities of the US healthcare system for international students. This application will not only provide practical assistance but also educate and empower students to make informed healthcare decisions. The necessity for such a solution arises from insights gathered through user research:
Demand for Simplification: International students need straightforward, user-friendly tools to navigate healthcare processes and understand insurance options.
Language and Cultural Barriers: Students express difficulties in communicating symptoms and understanding medical advice due to language barriers and cultural differences.
Need for Personalized Assistance: There is a strong desire for personalized guidance that can adapt to individual healthcare needs and preferences, reducing the anxiety associated with accessing healthcare in a foreign country.
Preference for Technological Solutions: Many international students are tech-savvy and prefer digital solutions that provide quick and reliable assistance, enhancing their overall healthcare experience.

Research & Analysis:
Conducted surveys and interviews with international students to understand their healthcare challenges and needs.
Analyzed competitor healthcare apps to identify gaps and potential improvements specifically tailored for international students.
Information Architecture:
Organized the app’s structure to prioritize essential features such as healthcare provider search, insurance information, emergency assistance, and educational resources.
Ensured the layout was intuitive, enabling users to navigate through the app effortlessly.
Wireframing & Prototyping:
Developed low-fidelity wireframes to visualize the app’s layout and navigation.
Refined wireframes iteratively based on user feedback, ensuring alignment with user needs and preferences.
Created high-fidelity prototypes to simulate the user experience and test the app’s functionality.
Usability Testing:
